Abstract:

FULL-PROOF "Ensuring the due course of criminal proceedings via strengthened respect for the procedural rights of the suspect and the accused" aims to contribute to the streamlining of criminal justice procedures by comprehensively addressing breaches of procedural rights occurring in the initial stages of justice proceedings, concretely those in Directive 2012/13/EU, Directive 2013/48/EU, and Directive 2016/1919/EU. The partnership will work with police officers and lawyers to comprehensively raise awareness and knowledge to better approach and work with suspects and accused. This overarching objective will be achieved by cross analysing the most prominent and common breaches in the practical implementation of these Directives, building upon identified best practices and developing a framework for their replicability, streamlining the use of new and existing tools and materials to assist professionals in their daily work and by promoting increased international  communication. Project objective 1 is to address common day-to-day breaches of the rights enshrined in these Directives and promote renewed national and EU action; Project objective 2 is to establish preliminary work to assess the replication of best practices nationally, concretely those concerning day-to-day practices; Project objective 3 is to reinforce the knowledge and awareness of front-line professionals; Project objective 4 is to facilitate crossprofessional and transnational dialogue, by promoting the exchange of experiences and practices; Project objective 5 will be expand sensibility and promote wider interest and understanding on procedural safeguards and their quintessential role for the respect for the Rule of Law. FULL-PROOF aims to directly reach 280 stakeholders throughout the project.
